The Licensing Service

The Licensing service is responsible for the administration and enforcement of most of the Council's licensing functions. These functions fall into 7 main categories:-

• Vehicle and Driver Licensing (Private hire and Hackney)
• Licensing Act 2003 (Supply of Alcohol, Provision of Entertainment)
• Zoos
• Animal Welfare (Horse Riding Establishments, Dog Breeding, Animal Boarding and Pet Shops)
• Charity Collections
• Street Trading
• Gambling Act

There are other minor licensing functions such as acupuncture and activities such as ear piercing, tattooing and the licensing of sex establishments.

The functions are varied but all have in common the need to be licensed to undertake the activity and the need for regulation to ensure the terms of the licence are complied with.
