When thinking about works to a listed building, its best to first speak to the Conservation Officer who may want to come out and visit the property to discuss the works and advise on the appropriate materials and techniques needed. 

Its best to have some plans or sketches to illustrate what you intend to do.

Sometimes a site visit won’t be necessary and advice can be given over email or telephone. This will put you in the best position when you go to submit an application for planning permission and/or listed building consent.

When the council considers whether to grant or to refuse an application, it must give particular attention to the desirability of preserving the building, its setting and those features which make it special. These are the things you should think about when you are planning your proposed changes.
