Stafford Regeneration

Transforming Stafford Town Centre

We were awarded just over £14.3 million from the Future High Streets Fund.

This kickstarted the Stafford Town Centre Transformation Programme, aimed at creating a welcoming environment in the County town and unlocking redevelopment opportunities to support the biggest transformation of the town centre in a generation.

In 2023, a £1 million refurbishment of the historic Market Square was completed, followed by enhancements to the approach and entrance to Stafford Railway Station in 2025.

Alongside this, we have purchased the following with the aim of creating development ready sites:

  • the former Guildhall Shopping Centre
  • the former Co-operative department store and neighbouring units
  • the former Wilko store

We are now entering a critical and exciting phase in the delivery of the regeneration programme, with a need to move forward at pace and to secure development partner(s).

To do so, we have prepared a Development Framework with concept plans that show how Stafford will thrive with town centre living, improved public spaces, market hall - including food court, entertainment, competitive socialising, and artisan traders - and office space. The Framework is being considered by Cabinet on 9 April (pdf 13mb).

Alongside the sites in the Development Framework, regeneration schemes are also being developed at Stafford Station Gateway and Eastgate (eastgate-stafford-consultation.co.uk).
