Staying warm in your rented property
If you are concerned about high heating bills and warmth levels in a property that you rent, it is best to first speak with your landlord to see what you can agree. Unless there is a legal exemption, privately rented homes are required to meet basic energy efficiency requirements. Under ‘Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards’ (MEES) legislation, landlords cannot grant a new tenancy for a property with an Energy Performance rating below ‘E’. Warmer Homes Stafford can advise landlords or tenants about the help and grants that are available to support home heating and insulation improvements and repairs.
Flexible Eligibility Statement of Intent
The Council has produced a Statement of Intent setting out how it proposes to use the Flexible Eligibility element of the Energy Company Obligation and the Great British Insulation Scheme to support and assist fuel poor households and those at risk from cold homes.
