The electoral register is updated every year.
Each summer, we contact every household in Stafford Borough to check that the information we hold is correct and to identify anyone who is eligible to register to vote. This process is known as the Annual Canvass.
The information we collect helps us publish an accurate Register of Electors each December.
How the Annual Canvass works
Step 1 - Data Matching
We securely compare the electoral register with records held by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The outcome of this check determines how we contact your household.
Step 2
We contact your household, addressed to ‘The Resident’
Route 1 - Household details match
If all registered electors at your property can be matched with DWP records, we will send a Canvass Communication A.
Where we hold an email address, we will send this by email using the GOV.UK Notify service.
For any households receiving an email communication you are required to respond by following the instructions contained in the email.
If you do not respond to the email, or we do not hold an email address, we will send a paper form instead.
If the details shown are correct, you do not need to respond to the paper form.
If you need to add, remove or update anyone's details, please use the online service:

Route 2 - Household details need checking
If we cannot match all electors at your property, we will send you a Canvass Form through the post.
This form will show the details we currently hold. If nobody is registered at the property, a blank form will be sent.
You must respond to a Canvass Form, even if there are no changes to make.
