Councillor Mark Winnington has been nominated to be the new Mayor of Stafford Borough.
Councillor Winnington was first elected to the borough council in 2003 and currently represents the Gnosall and Woodseaves Ward on the local authority.
The father of four has also served as a Staffordshire County Councillor and is a member of Ranton Parish Council. He was nominated for the role by Councillor Roy James.
Councillor Winnington, who runs an arable farm, was born in Stafford and went to the local grammar school. He is expected to take over from current Mayor, Councillor Jenny Barron, at a ceremony in May.
He said: “It is a great honour and I thank the group for having faith in me. I look forward to representing you all and we have some exiting mayor’s events to come to fruition.”
Councillor Frank James was nominated as the next Deputy Mayor. He represents the borough ward of Holmcroft and previously served as Mayor in 2024/25.
