Thousands of runners took to the streets for Stafford’s annual Half Marathon on Sunday.
The event, organised by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Stafford Borough Council, saw more than 2,000 entries, with runners taking part from all over the West Midlands and beyond.
Legal experts, Davisons Law, sponsor the event which raises tens of thousands of pounds for charities and good causes - and was hailed ‘a huge success’ by organisers.
Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Frank James, got the 13.1 mile race underway at 10am on Sunday (23 March) from just outside the town’s award-winning Victoria Park - and ten minutes later more than 400 families and youngsters took part in the approximately one-mile fun run - which was free to enter for children in full time education in the borough.
Jason Bennett, from Birchfield Harriers, was the winner in a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 13 seconds - with City of Stoke AC athlete, Chloe Hawkins, the first female home in 1hr:24:22.
Race Director, Laura Morris, said: “It was another hugely successful race with an amazing turnout in town and along the route - and the weather was kind to us which meant supporters were out in force which I know the runners were grateful for.
“Our team and volunteers started the set up on Saturday and then were out again early Sunday morning to make sure the route was ready. We couldn’t do it without them all. And a big thank you to Davisons Law our main sponsors for the event.”
Councillor Gillian Pardesi, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “It was another fantastic event in Stafford and raises so much money for various charities and good causes. It is always pleasing to see family, friends and spectators lining the route to cheer all the runners on - I know they really appreciate it.”
The Stafford Half Marathon’s sister event, the Stafford 10K, takes place in September with entries now open. More information from Stafford 10K - 21 September 2025 | Freedom Leisure
