A variety of venues will become polling stations next week giving residents across Stafford Borough the chance to cast votes in elections.

Local sports clubs, pubs, churches and village halls are convenient locations that will be used for people to vote on Thursday 2 May in an election for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC).

Stafford Rangers and Brocton football clubs, Stone Tennis and Squash Club, The Oxleathers Pub and The Polish Club in Stafford, and the Methodist Church in Barlaston, are just some of the venues to become polling stations for the day.

More than 100 polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm for residents eligible to vote.

The role of the PFCC is to set the priorities for the police and fire services in Staffordshire - holding the chief officers to account.

Residents wanting to vote will need to show identification at polling stations. A full list of accepted forms of ID can be found at Voter ID | Electoral Commission - and people who do not have any of the accepted identification have until Wednesday 24 April to apply for a free ‘Voter Authority Certificate’ at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

Electoral Returning Officer, Tim Clegg, who is the Chief Executive of Stafford Borough Council, said: “We are very grateful for the assistance of local businesses, sports clubs and community groups who make their premises available for polling stations.

“Democracy is something you only miss when it is not there. Taking part in these elections gives you the opportunity to choose who you want as Staffordshire’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

“So, the support of all these venues is really important and means voters across the borough won’t have far to travel to make their voice heard on Thursday 2 May."
