Councillors gave the go-ahead yesterday (Tuesday 30th) for more than £200,000 to be spent on energy saving measures for Stafford Leisure Centre.

The borough council unanimously agreed to fund solar panels and shower flow restrictors at the leisure complex on the town’s Lammascote Road.

The money was awarded to the local authority from the government’s ‘Swimming Pool Support Fund’ and will now be included in the council’s capital programme. The total amount for the improvement measures is £214,616 and must be spent before March next year.

Councillor Gillian Pardesi, Cabinet Member for Leisure, asked the council to accept the recommendation for the funding in the report.

Councillor Tony Pearce, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Nature Recovery, said: “This is a very welcome development both reducing the costs of operating the swimming pool and reducing our carbon footprint.”
