If you suspect that someone is committing benefit fraud please find below the ways that you can report this. 

Housing Benefit Fraud

The DWP (Department for Works and Pensions) is responsible for investigating Housing Benefit Fraud. Any suspected Housing Benefit fraud should be reported directly to the DWP. They also investigate fraud relating to benefits that DWP directly administer such as Universal Credit or disability benefits.

Council Tax Fraud

Council Tax Fraud is committed when someone knowingly gives false information or fails to report a change in circumstances in order that they receive support they are not entitled to, examples of which are:

  • Single Person Discount fraud - falsely claiming to live alone to receive a 25% discount on a Council Tax bill 
  • Local Council Tax Reduction Fraud - Local Council Tax Reduction is a means tested benefit administered by the Council. People on this scheme have a duty to provide accurate information and notify us of any changes in their circumstances. Failure to do so is an offence and can lead to a prosecution and reclaim of any monies wrongly paid out.

You can report fraud anonymously. However, it would be helpful to leave your contact details so that we can contact you for further information should be need it. Your details will not be shared with anyone else.
