The Council utilises Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in public open spaces across the Borough. CCTV is operated in accordance with the ‘Surveillance Code of Practice’ published by the Home Office in 2013 and assists in the prevention and detection of crime.
Cameras are continuously monitored at the Council’s CCTV Control Room and staff based at the Control Room work closely with police colleagues and monitor incidents such as:-
- Shoplifting
- Pick-pocketing
- Substance misuse
- Assault
- Unauthorised taking of motor vehicles and pedal cycles
- Public order offences
- Anti-social behaviour
- Fly tipping and Littering
In addition to this CCTV is also very effective and assists the police if children and adults go missing or children play truant from school. If you would like to request CCTV footage from the council in relation to an incident or any other matter, please fill in a CCTV request form.
Staff in the CCTV Control Room work very closely with shops and businesses in Stafford and Stone town centres and retail parks through the PABCIS (Partners Against Business Crime in Staffordshire) scheme. Stafford Borough Business Crime Reduction Partnership was introduced in February 2013 and encompasses Stafford and Stone Pubwatch and Storewatches. Membership of the scheme covers both day and night time economies. You can find more information on the Partnership Against Business Crime in Staffordshire website
