Ian picked up a Bronze Medal in the Rio 2016 Paralympics, the final was a dead heat and a photo finish determined the podium places.
There were just 5 millimetres separating the top three athletes. It was incredibly close watching it back, but Ian was happy with his Bronze Paralympic Medal. Giving the crowd and all at home such an amazing race to watch.
This award is named after Clare Skelton (nee Newton). Clare, a familiar face in Stafford was a well-known local athlete who worked as a Sports Development Officer for Stafford Borough Council.
Clare unfortunately lost her battle with cancer in May 2011. Before this Clare was successful in raising £14,000 for Caner Research UK. Clare will be remembered for her determination and inspirational personality.
Winners of this award have achieved greatness in their sports, a feat that recognises them as Stafford Borough Sports Person of the Year.
Winners of the award are selected from all of the individuals nominated in all the categories and it is the main award of the night.
Recipients of this award are named on an honours board that is in the Stafford Leisure Centre.
