The 2016 awards evening took place on Friday 10 March 2017. This years celebration was be held at Staffordshire County Showground.
This years awards saw entries from a wide variety of sports and clubs from within the borough.
The evening saw Guest of Honour, Olympic Gold medallist from Rio, Joe Clarke MBE, present the winners and finalists with their trophies and certificates.
Joe was also given a special one-off award to recognise his achievements in Rio and was presented with an 'Outstanding Achievement in World Sport' award. Member of Parliament for the Stafford constituency Jeremy Lefroy presented Joe with the trophy (pictured above).
2016 saw Joe take to the biggest stage in Canoe Slalom, Rio de Janeiro Olympics, after training hard in the early months of the year he felt ready.
A penalty in his first heat saw Joe plummet from first to last in the standings, the second heat was crucial for Joe, if he didn't improve he'd be on the plane home. The second heat saw Joe back up to second place and qualifying for the Semi-Finals.
Another impressive run saw Joe into the ten boat one run final. Joe looked nervous in the final, but those nerves soon disappeared and by the end of his run he was 0.17 seconds in the lead.
Joe had a medal but which colour? There was anguishing wait ahead for Joe as the final two competitors set off. Penalties and slow exits from gates from his rivals meant that Joe had done it and he was crowned Olympic Champion!
