Nurturing Health Award

The Nurturing Health Award Scheme was produced by the 'Live Well, Be Well' Staffordshire partnership, it is a self-assessment tool that was designed to provide early years care settings with guidance on how to provide healthy lifestyles for children and their families.

The Borough Council were commissioned by the County Council to deliver the scheme between 2010-2015 however a decision has been made to deliver it centrally from 2015 onwards.  For more information about the County scheme please see the Children's Food Trust website or

2015 Awards Celebration Event

This year’s celebration event saw seven of the Borough’s nurseries being presented with their awards by The Worshipful Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Ray Sutherland with Cabinet Member for Environment and Health Councillor Frank Finlay and also Head of Environment and Health at Stafford Borough Council Howard Thomas who were also in attendance.

Since 2011 61% of the Borough’s nurseries who qualify have achieved one or more Nurturing Health Awards with over 2,000 children across the borough benefitting from the high standards of food provision, physical activity and oral health.

2014 Awards Celebration Event

In celebration of their hard work and success of achieving the Nurturing Health Award, child care providers who have recently achieved the next level of the Nurturing Health Award were invited along to the Mayor's parlour to receive their awards.  The 2014 awards were presented to the nurseries and some of the children in their care, by The Worshipful Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Angela M Loughran, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health Councillor Frank Finlay and Head of Environment and Health at Stafford Borough Council Howard Thomas were also in attendance to celebrate the achievement.
