Take a walk on the wise side

Date: 18 May, 2017

Keen walkers are been encouraged to take part in a free training course to help people get fit with walking.

Stafford Borough Council, who runs the Walk Wise scheme, is after people to volunteer and help lead new walkers in a bid to get people fit.

Weekly walks currently take place across the borough in Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Stone, Victoria Park, Hixon, Gnosall, Holmcroft, Milford, Derrington and Castlefields.

Volunteer walk leaders should be good communicators who can help get others active and ensure walks are friendly, safe and well run.

The Borough Council provides the training for free along with ongoing support, resources and equipment to assist volunteers once they have qualified.

The training event is being held on Thursday, June 1 at Rising Brook Community Fire Station on Hesketh Road, Stafford.

People interested in attending should contact Richard Upton, Health and Wellbeing Community Development Officer at the Borough Council on 01785 619675 or email walking@staffordbc.gov.uk

Information is also available by visiting www.staffordbc.gov.uk/become-a-walk-leader

All walks in the programme are free, with no booking required. Those taking part gather at a designated meeting point. A timetable of the walks, which take place all year round, can be found at www.staffordbc.gov.uk/walkwise-calendar
