Don’t miss the boat to vote - call to Stafford Borough residents
Date: 7 Apr, 2017
The call for voters to sign up comes after the Electoral Commission launched a national voter registration campaign to encourage as many people as possible to register ahead of elections taking place this year across the country.
Stafford Borough Council are now also reminding voters that they need to register by the deadline of Thursday 13 April otherwise they won’t be able to take part in the County Council elections.
Voters in the Highfield and Western Downs ward of Stafford will also be electing to two seats which have become vacant on the Borough Council.
Deputy County Returning Officer, Tim Clegg, the Chief Executive of the Borough Council, said: “Time is running out to make sure you can take part in elections this May, so I’d encourage everyone in the borough to register online or get in touch with our election’s team if they’re not already registered to vote.”
Emma Hartley, Head of Campaigns at the Electoral Commission said: “Our research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are particularly less likely to be registered to vote. So if you have moved house recently, then make sure you’re registered correctly. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Stafford Borough.”
To register to vote, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote before Thursday 13 April.
Any person who is interested in standing in the elections should contact the Borough Council on firstname.lastname@example.org or 01785 619424. Nominations close at 4pm on Tuesday 4 April.
