Council hopes volunteers will click and connect with lonely people

Date: 13 Mar, 2017

A scheme to help lonely people in the Stafford Borough community is looking for volunteers.

Volunteer ‘Community Connectors’ will provide information on a range of services, groups and activities that are available within the area.

Stafford Borough Council is holding a workshop next month to explain what the role entails and provide information from organisations such as Staffordshire County Council and the Fire and Rescue Service.  The workshop on Thursday 6 April will also provide the opportunity for volunteers to have a say on how they would like the role to be delivered within their local community.

The aim of the scheme is to help older people improve their general wellbeing, reduce isolation and loneliness, improve knowledge, understanding, confidence and self-esteem.

Volunteers will receive full training on local support services and how to access them.

Anyone wanting to find out more about the role, or attend the workshop on Thursday 6 April, should contact Richard Upton, Health and Wellbeing Community Development Officer on health@staffordbc.gov.uk or 01785 619675 by Friday 24 March.
