See below for exciting events happening in Stafford this Christmas!
Please note that capacity in Market Square for the lights switch on has been reached well before the switch on at 5pm, in the past few year and we have had to close the viewing area. Please arrive as early as possible if you want to have the best view and not be disappointed.
On Saturday 22 November you can attend what promises to be a theatrical extravaganza with the launch of Stafford's Big Christmas Switch On Show. We've really upped the ante this year to create a fully rounded show that will keep you glued to the stage from 3pm onwards.
The musical entertainment kicks off with The Cartoon Kings at 3pm, a 5-piece rock and pop band with a genre and era spanning set-list that includes The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Duffy, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Florence and the Machine, Dolly Parton and many more. But before they grace the stage you can attend the Mayor's 400th Anniversary Walk at 2pm. 2014 marks the 400 year anniversary of King James I sealing a Royal Charter which established Stafford's Mayoral system. The charity walk, benefitting Katharine House Hospice, Stone and Stafford Guide Dogs for the Blind and the SSAFA will involve the unveiling of the plaque celebrating the Mayor's 400th anniversary, alongside a plaque commemorating the 100 years since the First World War.
For the next act at 4.10pm, you'll need to polish up your platforms, unfurl your flares, hitch up your hotpants and Take a Chance on Thank ABBA for the Music. Firmly established as one of the UK's leading ABBA tribute acts, with a client list that reads like a who's who of the UK's top entertainment venues, you are guaranteed to be unleashing your inner Dancing Queen! This is sure to be a family event that you will love whether you a six or sixty! Does Your Mother Know? If she doesn't, be sure to invite her because she won't want to miss out!
The Big Christmas light switch on at 5.00pm is also going to be extra special this year, as to further commemorate 100 years since the First World War we are asking for a local serviceman or woman to be our special guest and perform the honour of turning on our Christmas lights, alongside Stafford Borough Mayor, Councillor Ray Sutherland. This centenary accolade will hopefully be an inspiring moment for both the crowd and the local serviceman or woman, and it is something we are certain you will want to see.
The Christmas lights switch on will lead to a show-stopping firework display, longer and more dazzling than it has ever been before, and we're not even stopping there! After the display you can put your dancing shoes back on at 5.15pm and have another boogie to Thank ABBA for the Music for 45 minutes, bringing the night to an end at 6.00pm.
So be sure to get there early, in the past we have reached capacity very early in the day and you really won't want to miss any of this hit-packed concert entertainment that will keep you in the Christmas spirit whilst you're dancing in the street all night long.
